Malta Residence and Work Options

Malta, an EU and Schengen member, offers residence routes for investors and work permits for employees.

Malta Permanent Residence Programme (MPRP)

The MPRP grants permanent residence to non-EU applicants who meet its investment, property and due-diligence requirements, and it can include family members. Requirements are set by the Residency Malta Agency and change from time to time.

Single Permit for work

Employees from outside the EU usually need a Single Permit, which combines residence and the right to work for one employer. The employer and employee apply together through Identità, and first-time applicants complete a pre-departure course. Official Identità information.

Note on citizenship

Malta’s former citizenship-by-investment route was ruled incompatible with EU law by the Court of Justice of the EU in 2025, so we do not offer it.
